We enjoyed a socially distanced, cloudy day picnic with one of B’s friends/co-workers today out on the Mall. We haven’t really been out to do much yet, so getting to see someone out in the wild was wonderful and weird all at once. Kind of like my hair, which I felt deserved to get documented.

Also – picnics are so easy when you can just pick up tacos and pitchers of margaritas to go!

I’ve loved this little tiled mosaic in Navy Yard for years. I finally did some research and figured out this memorial is for someone named Diamond Teague, a teenager who made a big difference working for the Earth Conservation Corps in the southeast neighborhood before being murdered in front of his house at only 19 years old. His story is tragic and remarkable, and it gives me even more appreciation for the area and for him. And now I know what this memorial is for, so I can remember him every time I pass it.
